Considerations When Choosing Family Camping Tents

Family camping trips are great. They enable the whole family to have fun together. They allow the family to indulge in high adventure and appreciate wildlife together.

Camping usually involves a day or several days' stay in a campsite. It is imperative that the whole family gets shelter and protection from nature's elements. The main camping equipment that can provide shelter and protection is a tent.

Family camping tents are available in all sizes and shapes. It is important to choose the right camping tent for you and your family. Note that the right tent for someone else may not be the right one for you. Therefore, family camping tents must be chose with care.

The first thing to consider is the size. Tents come in two, four, six man and so on. However, you should choose a family camping tent that is one or two sizes larger than the number of the family members who will be sleeping in that tent. For example, choose a four or six-man tent for four people. That's because the number of people advertised for a certain tent represents the maximum number of people you can cram into the tent with no personal gear.

Also, the length and width of the family camping tent is important. Tall people, such as those who are 6 feet in height, would be uncomfortable for standard tents. You would also need space for clothing and personal gear for you and your family members.

The next thing to consider in family camping tents is the size.. If you plan to stand around inside a tent, an umbrella tent would be excellent. Geodesic tents are compact and easy to carry but can only accommodate a few people.

Choose a family camping tent that includes poles made out of aluminum or fiberglass. These materials are tough but light. Most tent manufacturers include emergency link repairs in case one or some of the poles break.

Modern family camping tents are made out of coated nylon. The material is waterproof, allowing great protection from the rain. For the inner walls, nylon mesh is utilized. When choosing a tent, make sure that the seams are reinforced and waterproofed by a seam sealer.

When buying a family camping tent, make sure you test the zippers. They must close and open easily. Do not buy tents whose zippers snag and get caught in the fabric. Additionally, zippers should be made of materials that shouldn't rust.

If your family plans to do camping other than summer or spring, you should consider buying a 3-season tent. This will keep your family snug and warm even during cold weather.

Lastly, do not go cheap on family camping tents. These are one of your biggest camping investments. Remember that in general, a good tent can last for many years.
